How often do we ask this question? Is it truly possible to break the cycle of poverty that affects the working poor families of North Philadelphia? And if it is possible, where would one begin?

The answer is yes; the solution is simple: innovative, quality programs that support the whole family. Without these programs homelessness, hunger and abuse will continue to grow. At Mercy Neighborhood Ministries we provide the highest level of programs and services so that our neighbors can and will have the opportunity for a better life.

The need for our programs is reflected in the staggering statistics of our neighborhood. The Tioga-Nicetown neighborhood has been abandoned by the city and nearly all of the mainstream churches. Our community is distinguished by low property value, a negative image, and perceptions of poor public safety. It is like other urban neighborhoods that have traditionally seen disinvestment, a steady migration of families to the suburbs, and the aftershocks of the drain of employment. The Tioga-Nicetown section of North Philadelphia is one of the poorest in the city. >>>more

it's official - we're green!

The Mercy Family Center was recently awarded Silver-Level LEED Certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. Our 32,000 sq. ft. family center was designed using LEED protocols and is a vibrant, symbol of hope and transformation to the Tioga-Nicetown Community. There are only 24 certified green buildings in the city of Philadelphia and only nine certified at the silver level.
