About Me….

For as long as I can remember, I have had a strong interest in working with children and youth in various surroundings such as churches, schools, extracurricular activities, tutoring and mentorship. This interest led me to pursue a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education from Arcadia University.

During my summer break as a junior undergrad, I worked at Mercy Neighborhood as an assistant group supervisor for the summer camp. Under the leadership of Ms. Barbara Coleman, it was a job like no other. Fun, educational and highly engaging for the children, I received hands-on training to prepare me for my road ahead as a teacher.

My desire and commitment for youth development in the city motivated me to continue my education and training in graduate school; pursuing a Masters of Arts in Community Leadership from Alvernia University. With an expected graduation date of December 2015, I’ve made it my mission to advocate for not only the youth, but the community in its entirety.

Mercy Present…

Now, as an intern here at Mercy, I’m given the opportunity to learn from, shadow and work with experienced individuals in the Development office of an organization that prides itself in providing care, empowerment, and quality service for members of the community. This experience helps strengthen my organizational and communication skills, my ability to effectively manage several tasks simultaneously, and my ability to work autonomously and as part of a team. This experience will equip me with the knowledge and skills that will help me become a better professional in nonprofit management.

What I’m learning about the nonprofit world….

There are children and families who suffer everyday from living at or beneath poverty. I was a child of the inner-city. My mother was a single parent working multiple jobs to give me and my siblings a private education. She did the best she could with what she had. Philadelphia’s urban environment has made me determined to make an indelible mark in the community and push for the underprivileged and disfranchised of America. My mission and call is to servant leadership – serving, leading, and transforming.

Ministry…

Ministry is an action word. To minister can be defined as to serve, take care of or attend to the needs of. Mercy Neighborhood Ministries of Philadelphia does exactly that. From the Board, Directors and Staff, Mercy serves the neighborhood in manifold ways. I’m glad to be back at Mercy serving.
