Adult Education & Human Development

MNM offers an Adult Education Program unlike other programs. Being located in the community allows program participants to walk to the Center where they receive a specialized, one-on-one tutoring experience that focuses on their specific need at the time of entering our program. This specialized tutoring is rarely available nor affordable for our population in programs sponsored by larger institutions.

Although we service a smaller population, we are able to focus on the whole person. Self-confidence and self-esteem are often very low, can easily exhaust an individual’s motivation, and derail him/her from participating in programs set in larger class settings. We have found that the individual tutoring helps renew their self confidence thus motivating them to strive for academic excellence. At the appropriate time in the training, they have an opportunity to participate in small group classes when they are ready.

Adult Programming includes specialized classes and individual tutoring in the following areas:

  • High school equivalency (GED)
  • Basic literacy skills
  • Computer classes: Basics, Office 2007 including Word, Excell and PowerPoint
  • SAT preparation for high school students interested in college and workplace skills
  • We also offer assistance with college applications (essays, financial aid forms, etc.), investigating other post secondary education opportunities, and matching participants’ job skills to job opportunities.
